The FHRB Biobank collects samples only from patients who have given their informed consent.
The collection of blood samples for the biobank takes place in the sample collection units of hospitals. These samples are taken at the same time as samples needed for diagnostic purposes. The collection of bone marrow and skin biopsy specimens for the biobank takes place during the bone marrow sample collection procedure that is part of the patient’s routine care.
The samples are collected by the hospital staff. The samples are sent refrigerated to the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service for processing.
